The Kappa Lambda Chapter at the University of Tampa was chartered on Saturday, January 30, 1982 at 4:00 p.m. under the advising chapter Beta Sigma Zeta Chapter of Tampa, President Soror Lena Spencer. Soror Virginia Hansberry, Director of Southeastern Region and Soror Gladys Alexander, State of Florida Director conducted the chartering ceremony. Soror Jessie Artest, of Beta Sigma Zeta Chapter and member of the National Budget Committee, gave the Challenge.


The Chartering members of the organization were: Sandra Harvey, Pleasantville, New Jersey, President; Stephanie Herbert, St. Croix, Virgin Islands , Vice-President; Florence Angole, Nassau Bahamas, Grammateus; Charline C. A. Schmidt, Tamias; Violetra Ward, Dean of Pledgees; Rubyleth M. Huggins and Charlene H. J. Schmidt, St. Croix, Virgin Islands.


On Saturday, October 10, 1987, Nu Upsilon Zeta Chapter was chartered with the chapter seat being Temple Terrace. Upon the chartering of the chapter by International Grand President, Soror Eunice S. Thomas, Nu Upsilon Zeta received their challenge. As part of the challenge Nu Upsilon Zeta became the advising chapter to Kappa Lambda Chapter at the University of Tampa. Kappa Lambda Chapter at the University of Tampa was reactivated on April 20, 1996 in the Grand Salon in H. B. Plant Hall at the university.


The reactivation of the chapter was the desire of Soror Willie Mae Cross since 1995. Soror Willie Mae Cross served as Advisor to the chapter and Third Vice President to Nu Upsilon Zeta Chapter, graduate advising chapter. President of Nu Upsilon Zeta Chapter during the reactivation was Soror Catherine Smith. Campus Advisor for the chapter was Dr. Arthur Hollist who served, as campus coordinator for recruiting young ladies for Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. The State of Florida Director was Soror Mattie Everette and Area V Director, Soror Martha Williams. The reactivation of the chapter consisted of 10 young ladies to become known as the Tantalizing Ten. The members were: Tracee Rolle, Nassau Bahamas, President; Alexia Coakley, Nassau Bahamas, Vice-President; Lasheantea Davis, Tampa, Florida ,Treasurer; Tamara James, St. Maarten, Netherlands Antilles, Secretary; Kishan Stevens, St. Thomas, Virgin Islands, Phylacter; Raquel Granger, Saba, Netherlands Antilles Business ,Manager; Sandra French-Rose, Jamaica, West Indies; Rashandia Johnson, Ft. Pierce, Florida; Dawn Rawlins, Christiansted, St. Croix, Virgin Islands; Laquanda Carmichael, Orlando, Florida.


In attendance at the program were Nu Upsilon Zeta Chapter, Temple Terrace; Beta Sigma Zeta Chapter, Tampa; Soror Willie Mae Jackson, Florida State Director of Undergraduates; Alpha Eta Chapter, University of South Florida; Zeta Xi Chapter, Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; Tampa Alumni Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity; Sydney McCray, First Vice State Director of the State of Florida of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity.
